Where to now?

One thing’s for sure, staying at home with a three year old and a nine month old is by far the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. The Bar Exam doesn’t even come close. With kids, life is a series of routines. Eat, nap, play. Eat, nap, play. On and on. At the same time, the family is in a constant state of flux. The children grow and change rapidly while I and my wife, who are basically who we are, watch in confusion.

Soon, the boy will be out of the house for a few hours everyday in the fall. A new school beckons. In addition, the folks have relocated to New Orleans and agreed to help out with the little one. That leaves me something I haven’t had in quite a while: time.

So where to now? Should I barrel ahead and try to finish my book? Should I bag that idea and look for the office job? What about freelancing? I’ll scratch one thing off the list: the corporate world. I may not know where my career is headed, but I know where it isn’t.

For now, I’m going to get back to writing. Thanks for reading.

Out of the Office

stayathomedadSo, this is the first day of my new life at home. I am no longer working full time in an office. I’ve switched to part-time working from home. I am now part writer, part stay-at-home dad, and part working stiff. Hope my son goes easy on me! The toughest part will be arranging my day so I can still get as much writing done as possible. Have a long road ahead of me with all these projects! Wish me luck.

Back to Work

Hey all, trying to get back to writing more regularly. Shane is a busy kid but lately he’s let me get some writing time in! I’m working on editing a story I wrote for a writing competition about a year ago that I will be submitting to this year’s Outworld Press Anthology. The story is called Heads or Tails and it involves an abusive father and his sheltered children.

Here is the link to the Outworld Press Facebook page:

I’m also working on my edits for my novel and so far I’m happy. I still have a long way to go but it’s shaping up nicely. My comic project is still in the works, as well. I just received some notes from Jason for ideas and I’ll be starting on a script soon. Exciting things happening, stay tuned!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day from New Orleans!

My wife has given me permission to walk again this year with the Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Club here in New Orleans! She is going to stay at home with Shane while I stumble through the streets of New Orleans. She’s a trooper! Love you baby!

My family and I have started to get into what vaguely resembles a routine so I’ve been looking at my manuscript again after a short break. Shane is my new inspiration and I hope to be more creative than ever.

Happy St. Paddy’s Day y’all!

Cringeworthy Edits

Finishing that first draft was a total relief and accomplishment but now that the edits have begun I cringe at what I wrote a year ago. A lot is getting lopped off during the second draft for good reason. There is a whole new level of satisfaction in trimming out the crap that I puked onto the page just to get to the next chapter. I’m optimistic.
